Our take
If you are launching a real product store and you want to be live and selling this week instead of three months from now, Shopify is the path that works. We have set up Shopify stores for clients and run product tests on it ourselves. The platform is not the cheapest option, but it is the option that does not get in your way.
What makes Shopify the right call: the checkout flow converts well out of the box, the app ecosystem covers anything you would otherwise need a developer for, and the infrastructure is genuinely production-grade — your store will not go down on Black Friday. The trade-off is monthly cost and platform lock-in. If you grow into a $10K/month store, the percentage Shopify takes becomes a real number; if you are launching, it is the lowest-friction path to first sale by a wide margin.
Where Shopify is wrong for you: if you are running an affiliate site, a content site, or a service business, you do not need a storefront. Use WordPress with Hostinger and skip this entirely.
